I wonder if obama really believes the stuff he so eloquently says
“thanks to the courage, grit, and perseverance of our men and women in uniform, we have given iraqis a chance to shape their future and we are successfully leaving iraq to its people.”
or, retooled to include some of the stuff that the rhetoric allows you to ignore:
“thanks to the courage, grit, and perseverance of our men and women in uniform [who face a dishonorable discharge or potential prison time for objecting, resisting, or otherwise not showing such honorable attributes], we have given [those] iraqis [who are still living] a chance to shape their future [in an image largely determined by us and our impoverished understanding of democracy] and we are successfully leaving iraq to its people [which may now include as many as five million orphaned children largely thanks to us]. [blah blah alibi for more war in the name of freedom blah aren’t i looking more and more like bush now blah thanks for the peace prize, homies blah]”
