Anonymous asked: I genuinely love and am in awe of your writing. I like your mind and your political (academic) writing but I'm thinking especially of your personal writing (what a blurry, non existent line there...) I wish you wrote more about your life and I think you are very talented.
Wow. Thanks. Seriously, thank you. So much of this blog has been a semi-public experiment in writing, in trying to see where where writing can go, to see how I can move through writing. In writing to risk, writing to trust, writing to know, better.
The personal stuff, as I’ve probably said before, is the stuff I find hardest to work my way into. I haven’t done that much living, and I have such imperfect access even to my own experiences of love or happiness. What remains, most of the time, are the experiences and the memories that I can’t shake. Some of the time it’s because there’s something rich or thick about those moments that I think I can make available in an interesting way. Other times, it’s simply because this blog has become a bit of a safety valve. My moon is in Aries: I suffer from the belief that a kind of accumulated knowledge expresses itself in my impulsiveness. So I write. I’m blessed to have people around me who are willing to entertain my rashness. Good company, to me, is everything.
