so, i’m wondering

your politically correct and flabbergasted need of doing something special about it is really the only inadecuate thing.

how about saying ‘hello’ ?

“my own experience is that black people can be quite smart when you let them [my emphasis], and they will be able to tell that the white boy never intended to offend them nor cause them harm in any way.”

lol.  thank goodness that all these white folks are around to let me show and prove to them that i’m smart and talented.  and in sports, especially.  don’t really know what i’d do without them.

hey there, lowendtheory. did I ever mention you should play sports? I said I used to play soccer. no expectations whatsoever about your activities, I don’t know you a lot yet.

ok, how about if I were referring to my younger selves of 30 years ago and I used the same language construction?

‘those kids can be bright if you let them’.

no negative connotation there, right?  it’s only the assumptions we make about people treating them as ‘the other’,  just like you’re implying all little white boys have some racist agenda against you.

and frankly just like too many white guys will unfairly imply things about your skin and culture.

all I wanted to show is that overreacting and acting ‘special’ on any of these situations is not something that will bring us closer as human beings

but let me go on with my little story a little more. for a while I  was the fatty boy of the course when I was in school. people didn’t expect me to play football too

I found very little of interest—and even less of relevance—in your initial story, so you may have to excuse me for not being terribly excited for its impending sequel.  I’d also appreciate it if you’d avoid telling me that I’m overreacting.  I don’t even know what you mean when you say “acting ‘special.’”

While I’m enjoying the way you’re reading all sorts of things into what I wrote—especially since I didn’t imply anything about the kids much as I questioned the response of the parents to their childrens’ behavior—I have no interest and even less desire to bringing us “closer as human beings” when that closeness is based on my feeling objectified, or feeling like my bodily presence is the stimulus to white anxiety, guilt, etc.  No interest and no desire, especially when my raising it as an issue means that I am the one to be accused with overreaction.
